October: National Breast Cancer Awareness Month
The month of October is international recognized as National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. BCAM, or in America as NBCAM
, is an annual health campaign, run internationally, in the month of October, organized by many major breast cancer charities, designed to increase awareness of the disease, and raise funds for research, prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and cure. In addition to raising awareness, information and support is often provided to those who are currently affected by breast cancer.
What to Expect?
Starting on October 1st and ending on October 31st, women are educated about just how important early screening and testing is to catch any concerns at their earliest point, for the best chances of survival. Around the world, a variety of events are organized during the month of October, which includes runs, walks, and the wearing of pink. Some landmark buildings are illuminated pink
, individual businesses run campaigns, and here in the US, the NFL, National Football League
, promotes breast cancer awareness by wearing pink, both on and off the field.
Are we Participating?
This year, Flower Mound Dental: Dr. William E. Wyatt Jr. DDS
, is running their own individual campaign, with the help and support of our local Online Media Strategy Specialists, My Social Practice
. So, because October is here, that means it’s time to Put on Pink for breast cancer awareness! With your help, our practice will be raising funds to support breast cancer research. Throughout the office, you will see reminder signs with regards to our campaigns, and the staff will be wearing pink t-shirts, pink sun glasses, and even pink feather boas when the mood arises!
We Donate When You Put On Pink!
When our patients show support for breast cancer research, so can we! There are three different ways you can participate in this campaign!
- Follow our social media accounts.
- Check in on Facebook at our practice.
- Post a photo or story from our practice!
For each interaction, we will make a contribution to breast cancer research! You can do just one of them or you can do all three!
Breast Cancer Statistics
With one in eight
being diagnosed during their lifetime, breast cancer is the most common cancer among women. By the end of the year, it’s estimated that over 260,000
more women will have been diagnosed with breast cancer in the United States alone, and over 40,000 women will have succumbed to the disease. Although it’s more rare, men are sometimes diagnosed with breast cancer as well, with an estimated 2,550 cases being diagnosed this year.
Medical Advancements Bring Hope
The diagnosis and death statistics for breast cancer are still far too high, but thanks to improvements in early detection, advancements in treatment, and increased awareness, survival rates been going up steadily since 1989
